Project Proposal
Classroom Construction at Kakuma Refugee Camp
Project Title
Building Classrooms for Vulnerable Children in Kakuma Refugee Camp
Introduction:
- The Social Action Center for Vulnerable Individuals (SACVI) is a grassroots, community-based organization responding to these challenges by providing after-school education, psychosocial support, and creative learning spaces. To strengthen these efforts, SACVI proposes the construction of one fully equipped classroom in Kakuma 2, Zone 2, Block 2, to serve at least 200 children from the surrounding blocks.
Specific Goals
- Improve access to safe and spacious learning environments.
- Offer after-school education and literacy programs in a secure space.
- Enhance community participation in educational development.
- Provide a model classroom for possible future expansion.
Project Objective
- To construct and furnish a safe, inclusive classroom that provides vulnerable children in Kakuma Refugee Camp with access to consistent education, emotional support, and community-based learning opportunities
Key Objectives:
1. Empowerment through Education
SACVI provides after-school education, holiday learning programs, and skills training for vulnerable children and youth in Kakuma Refugee Camp and beyond — helping them build hope and opportunity through knowledge.
2. Environmental Sustainability
SACVI promotes permaculture, recycling, and environmental awareness as key tools for resilience and self-reliance — transforming waste into resources and barren land into green spaces.
3. Mental Health & Peacebuilding
Through counseling, art therapy, and conflict resolution training, SACVI supports emotional well-being and peaceful coexistence among individuals affected by displacement, trauma, or hardship.
4. Community-Led Innovation
SACVI believes in grassroots leadership, empowering local voices — especially women and youth — to design, run, and sustain community-based solutions that reflect real needs.
5. Creative Expression & Culture
SACVI uses film, storytelling, art, and drama (e.g., the Children’s Cinema Club and cultural plays like Another Side of Africa) to inspire learning, raise awareness, and connect people across backgrounds.
6. Feeding Program:
- Provide two nutritious meals per day
- Partner with local farmers and nutritionists for a sustainable food supply
- Establish a school kitchen and dining space
